The Zoe House A note from Beth Gore: When I was a teenager, I read an article on girls being abandoned in China. I knew then that I wanted to some day adopt from there. In fact, when I met my soon to be husband, I told him, "Some day we will adopt from China." And he said "Cool". (Good answer! 'Cause that was a deal breaker for me.) Somewhere along the way, it was deposited that I would run an orphanage too. I just "knew it". Over the years, we've adopted 5 special needs children. And in doing so, I felt like I had a decent understanding of attachment, grief and loss effects of neglect and so forth. I also have a PhD in training so it seems only natural that I would come up with trainings and curriculum for caregivers and parents. Meanwhile, I have worked very, very hard at surrounding myself with gifted people who have a heart like I do. I am a resource to them and they are a resource to me. We are gifted in completely different areas and utilize our talents to better the world. One thing I found in common with many of these friends is ... they all had a heart to run an orphanage too. Hmmmm. Very interesting. So I get an email and basically say, "Why not?" I have no clue what I'm doing. I have no clue where the funding will come from. I have no clue how I can run this from America but I doubt moving 5 special needs kids to China is much of an option. But I said yes nevertheless. So this is the journey of a whole bunch of moms who have a heart to help children. If we can help just ONE live who would have died. Isn't that worth it? If we can help just ONE have enough food. If we can help just ONE find a forever family. If we can help just ONE feel the love of God, to feel loved. Isn't it worth it? Zoe means "Life" and we thought there no more appropriate word for a children's home. And you know how you can be alive but not really living? Zoe means abundant living, really living. We want The Zoe House to be a place where children come to live, to grow, to feel loved, to get healthy and then to find a forever family. Won't you join in this? Will you become a part of The Zoe House? |
