Zoe, Beth and Shari visit New Day |
| Nov 16, 8:30pm (China time) I finally found batteries for my camera. So I should be back in business tomorrow. Still none to post for today. Today was a great day at New Day. Wonderfully loving people, amazing staff. I was graciously invited to sit and ask questions of people. I'm asking the things I think I might need to know about the various aspects of running a children's home. They have such a successful model, why reinvent the wheel. Today, one of the meetings was about Orphanage relationships and the Medical aspects of the home. The second main meeting was about the emerging Physical/Occupational therapy program. Both were very eye opening and gave me some wonderful things to consider. On campus, we run into the most amazing people. Many are young volunteers from the states. They just wanted to come over and help/serve in some capacity. It's neat to see so many people on fire for God. The house we're staying on is right on campus in the center of it all. It's right next to the foster home and the dining hall. Now let me tell you ... I've had BETTER food at this dining hall than I've had in all of China. Seriously. They make it from incredibly fresh, quality food and they have a way of making it taste amazing. You can see the whole kitchen from the window as you order. And I should add, I'm really happy Zoe and I started practicing with our chopsticks. Forks and spoons are available but the chop sticks are actually easier while eating this food. They have a little commissary right inside the dining hall that has basic things and snacks, drinks, etc. So one could be quite nicely set up here with very little effort. The house we're staying in is HUGE. It's all very nicely furnished with TV (with satellite), games, wireless internet, kitchen, etc. There are 5 bedrooms and 5 1/2 baths. So our room has a queen sized bed and a set of bunks. The bathroom is right inside the door as well. So all tucked away and self contained. There are other rooms of various sizes too - like the one next door has 5 sets of bunks in it. So groups could come here and be quite comfortable. This is the place you stay if you're here for 2 weeks or less. There is an apartment complex across the way if you stay for longer. Zoe is doing amazing. She's completely in her element. Shari is taking her and spending time with her - doing tours, going to the baby home, watching movies in our room, playing games, etc while I have these long meetings. She has been an incredible help to me knowing Zoe was in safe hands. As far as the meetings go ... much of it is still pretty on the down-low. So keep us in prayers that we're getting the info we need to be prepared to talk with the director on Thursday morning. That's when we fly from here to Taiyuan. Missing everyone. I'm especially "Lost" not having facebook. So if anyone wants to drop a line, feel free!!!! goredan@hotmail.com Love to all, Beth and Zoe. |
