Frequently Asked Questions

What is The Zoe House?  The Zoe House is children's home for orphaned or abandoned children with
    special needs.

Why is it named The Zoe House?  The word "Zoe" is the Greek word that means "Life".  We thought a house
of life would be a fitting name for our mission.  John 10:10 uses the word.  "I have come to give you life (Zoe)
    and that more abundantly".

Why are we starting a Children's Home?  When we were in China adopting our daughter in 2007, we saw the
need.  In March 2009, we went back to take supplies (medical, clothing, shoes, school, etc.).  While there, we
got further details about the needs of the orphans in China.  We made relationships instrumental in our
decision to pursue the children's home.

Aren't there other groups with Children's Homes?  Yes.  And they are amazing.  Many have been instrumental
in helping us decide that we can do this.  Many of the directors have been very supportive of The Zoe House
staff, offering words of wisdom, valuable insight and emotional support.  You may find it interesting that many
of these groups were also "birthed" in the heart of a mother.

Why not America?  We at Destiny's Crossing and The Zoe House contribute directly to foster and adoption
groups and children in the US and believe in supporting those in need in our own backyard and abroad.

Why China?  The original plan  was to take supplies to children in any country.  If there were children in need,
we would go there.  We started with China because Beth and Dan Gore had adopted from there and they
wanted to "pay it forward" for the wonderful care Zoe received in China.  Then the opportunity came to start
    the children's home.

Why Taiyuan, Shanxi?  When Beth Gore and the team went to China in March 2009 to deliver supplies, this
is the province they visited.  Once again, it was a chance to "pay it forward" for the care given to Zoe Gore.
Recently, the American organization that was working in this province is now no longer working there.  We
decided we could do some small part to continue to serve the children in this province.

Why now?  This is when the opportunity came around.  Beth Gore has wanted to run an orphanage since
she was a teenager.  She shared it with her church about 7 years ago.  Now here it is.   There is a saying,
"When the student is ready, the teacher will appear."  Well, what about a new saying:  When the person is
    ready, the opportunity will appear.

Why us?  Ever hear the story of the man on the side of the road who was beaten and robbed.  Every person
who saw him just looked at him and passed him by.  Some even went on the other side of the road.  One
man saw him and took him home, took care of him, fed him, clothed him.  They call him "The Good
Samaritan."  But that is what we ALL should be doing.  If we see a need and have the capacity to help and yet
do nothing, what kind of person does that make us?  Matthew 25 says if we do it unto the least of these we've
done it unto Jesus.  So to me, the better question is, Why NOT us?

Is this a 501 (c) 3?  Yes,  The Zoe House is a program of Destiny's House Church based in Brandon, Florida
(near Tampa).  The 501(c)3 is Registered under Church of the Sovereign God.  Though the founders are
Christians and it is under the direction of churches, The Zoe House is not specifically religious in nature.
